"The concept is a very in and out shopping experience," store director Janice Thongvanh told LarryInFishers during a media tour the week before the new Meijer Grocery opened on Southeastern Parkway. "It's what you need for your everyday needs for your grocery shopping."
The doors opened at 6 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2026. That same fall, the City of Fishers is rebuilding the five-leg roundabout at Olio Road and Southeastern Parkway and has closed 136th Street to through traffic farther east. Through January 2027, a store built for a fast trip sits in a corner of northeast Fishers where the drive there is the slowest part of the errand.
What "In and Out" Means at 15700 Southeastern Parkway
The store sits at the corner of Southeastern Parkway and North Cyntheanne Road, and it is the first Meijer inside the Fishers city limits. It is also a different kind of Meijer from the supercenters most Hamilton County shoppers know.
| Meijer Grocery, Fishers | Typical Meijer supercenter | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | About 75,000 sq. ft. | Roughly twice that, per the store director |
| Checkout | 4 staffed lanes, 11 self-checkout stations | Varies by store |
| Focus | Food and everyday essentials | One-stop shopping, including general merchandise |
According to LarryInFishers, Thongvanh said the store will put its priority on keeping customers moving through the staffed lanes. The smaller footprint still holds the departments a weekly trip needs. Meijer's opening-day release lists produce, meat cut fresh daily, a bakery with in-store cake decorators, a full-service deli, a pharmacy, pet supplies, party supplies and floral. Shop & Scan lets shoppers scan and bag items as they go, and pickup and home delivery are available too.
There is also a "Local Favorites" endcap with Indiana-made products, including Copper Moon Coffee, Triple XXX Root Beer and Just Pop In Popcorn.
This format has been tested close to home. The Fishers store is the second Meijer Grocery in Indiana. The first opened in July 2024 at the Noblesville Promenade Shops at State Road 32 and Little Chicago Road, and it was the first Meijer Grocery outside Michigan. Thongvanh helped open that Noblesville store as well.
The Meijer Express fuel station on the site opened earlier, on Sept. 2. mPerks rewards earned in the store can go toward fuel savings at Meijer Express stations.
Neighbors who followed the approvals in 2024 may remember the site details. Current in Fishers reported that the plans were revised to add raised parapets that hide rooftop equipment, to turn the gas pumps away from the road, and to run a landscaped berm 3 to 4 feet high along Southeastern Parkway. The berm was meant to screen traffic and headlights from nearby homes.
The Roundabout Between I-69 and the New Store
Drivers coming from the I-69 interchange area along Southeastern Parkway reach the Olio Road roundabout first. LarryInFishers reported that drivers have called the five-leg layout confusing for years. City officials say the redesign will add capacity, ease congestion on nearby roads and make the intersection easier to get through.
The fifth leg is now permanently closed. Under the current setup, Olio Road has one southbound lane leaving the roundabout and one northbound lane entering it, from the roundabout to just south of 136th Street. The city's weekly update also lists a closure of about three weeks on 136th Street west of Olio for tie-in work on the new two-way section, with traffic detoured to 134th Street. As of the city's update for the week of Oct. 12, no reopening date had been posted. Access from I-69 to IU Health Fishers stays open through a bypass lane, and emergency access will be maintained.
The city's phase schedule for the rest of the project, as reported in September:
| Phase | Timing | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 2 | Mid-October to early November | Major closures for northbound, eastbound and southbound traffic at the roundabout, with detours |
| Phase 3 | Early November to mid-December | Roundabout reopens except northbound Olio Road on its north side |
| Completion | January 2027 | Includes a new connector road between 136th Street and Southeastern Parkway |
As of LarryInFishers' Oct. 10 roundup, the city said Phase 2 "remains on track to begin in mid-October." No exact start day had been announced. The city says it will share Phase 2 detour maps before the phase begins at FishersIN.gov/Olio.
The contract went to E&B Paving LLC on a bid of $6,725,304. Federal dollars cover 80 percent through the Metropolitan Planning Organization's federal funds exchange program, and the city pays the other 20 percent. The city also says businesses in the area remain open and reachable during every phase.
The Other Closure, Farther East on 136th Street
The second project is a separate job from the roundabout and runs on a different stretch of 136th Street. The 136th Street widening has moved into its second phase, and 136th is closed to through traffic between Southeastern Parkway and Prairie Baptist Road. The signed detour uses those two roads.
What gets built here changes the area for good. The city describes turning a rural two-lane road into a boulevard with raised medians, new multi-use paths on both sides, new pavement, curb and gutter, and storm sewer upgrades. Once the work is done, people walking or biking along this stretch of 136th Street will have a path on each side of the road.
The detour also sends traffic onto Southeastern Parkway itself, the road the new store faces. For now, the parkway serves as a detour route and as the store's frontage road, during the same months the Olio roundabout goes through its heaviest closures.
How the Rest of the East-Side Loop Fits Around It
The new Meijer joins errand stops that northeast Fishers already uses, and several of them sit along roads touched by this fall's work.
- Kroger at 116th and Olio, 11700 Olio Road, is the established grocery stop farther south on Olio.
- Everwise Credit Union, 12330 Olio Road, held the grand opening of its newest full-service branch on Sept. 21. Current in Fishers reported that the drive-thru has two Interactive Teller Machines, which connect to a live teller by video during extended hours, and the lobby has a self-service coin machine.
- Schoolhouse 7 Cafe, 12125 Cyntheanne Road, is the coffee stop on the same road as the new store's corner.
- Geist Waterfront Park, 10811 Olio Road near 111th Street, is a 70-acre park with trails, a playground and non-motorized water access. Beach and swimming ended for 2026 on Sept. 7, and the park grounds stay open year-round.
- Fishers AgriPark, 11171 Florida Road, has two fall overnight campouts left this month, on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. Registration covers a campsite, fire pit, movie, activities and continental breakfast on the 33-acre working urban farm.
Everwise and Kroger are also on Olio Road, the road whose lanes the roundabout project has narrowed. This fall's construction touches the whole east-side errand loop.
The store has also tied itself to local organizations from day one. At the ribbon-cutting, Meijer presented $15,000 donations to Fishers Youth Initiative and Good Samaritan Network. The Fishers store's first food pantry partner is Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank, which will receive donations from Meijer's holiday campaign through Dec. 26.
The Dates That Shape the Trip Between Now and January
- Mid-October: Olio roundabout Phase 2 is scheduled to begin, with major closures for northbound, eastbound and southbound traffic.
- Oct. 16 and 17: The last two scheduled AgriPark campouts.
- Early November: Phase 3 is scheduled to start, and the roundabout reopens except northbound Olio Road on its north side.
- Mid-December: Phase 3 is scheduled to end.
- Dec. 26: Meijer's holiday campaign for Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank ends.
- January 2027: The city expects the roundabout project, including the new connector between 136th Street and Southeastern Parkway, to be finished.
All of these road dates are forecasts and depend on the weather. The city posts weekly changes at FishersIN.gov/RoadConstruction and on the @DriveFishers account on X.
A new store and a new connector road change how a part of town works day to day, and that is often the first thing buyers ask about when they look at homes nearby.
